Anti-protest provisions have been added to Omnibus bills. Call the Governor!
Anti-protest provisions have been slipped into 2 House Omnibus bills, (Public Safety Omnibus and the Transportation Omnibus), making them hard for the Governor to veto.
Last week was a not a great week for women:
Iowa voted to ban all abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected (6 weeks), except in cases of rape, incest or medical emergency.
Mn House voted to allow employers to deny coverage for birth control as part of the Health & Human Services (& Transportation) Omnibus bill and they also voted against the Protect Access to Contraception (PAC) Act that would have protected no-cost birth control from further attack from the Administration.
Lastly the Mn Senate passed SF2849, the “ultrasound bill”, legislating that doctors must offer patients, who have chosen to have an abortion, the option of viewing an ultrasound (a right patients already have).

The MN House Public Safety Omnibus bill (HF2856), to be discussed and possibly voted on Tuesday May 1st, has some problems:
a) It includes 2 anti-protest provisions that are being rolled out across the country and are aimed at chilling dissent, particularly by groups like BLM and Water Protectors.
b) It includes NO gun control provisions. (26 sensible gun law bills are waiting at MN Leg for action to be taken on them.)
