Minnesota Pride celebrates and continues the momentum of the Stonewall Riots

Fifty years ago the LGBTQIA movement pushed forward with the Stonewall Riots. On June 28, 1969, the riots began when patrons of a gay bar revolted against a police raid at the Stonewall Inn in New York. The police persecuted patrons for non-gender conforming attire and homosexual behavior. It is considered the start of liberation. This year, we celebrate the heroes of Stonewall and recognize that the liberation is not complete and we need to keep fighting to ensure progress, especially in today’s political climate.

Meet Jovita Morales; Leader of Minnesota Immigrant Movement. Our First Resilient Resister!

We are proud to introduce our first Resilient ReSister, Jovita Morales. Jovita Morales remembers vividly the day she became an activist regarding Minnesota driver’s licenses. The day was when her two children were returning from a field trip organized by Waite House. Their school bus was on the 35W bridge when it collapsed August 1, 2007.

Resilient ReSisters are Minnesota women who are making a difference in their communities; large or small, loud or quiet. She is your neighbor, your child’s favorite teacher, your co-worker, your daughter. She is you! Each month we’ll feature a new Resilient ReSister.
