Treaty People Gathering June 5-8 and WMM to join effort June 5-6

The Treaty People Gathering is a weekend-long initiative leading up to a non-violent direct action on June 7 in Northern Minnesota to stop construction of Enbridge’s Line 3 project in Northern Minnesota. The  Treaty People Gathering describes the effort:

We will not stand by and watch a fossil fuel corporation line its pockets as so much is destroyed, producing oil we don’t need. On June 5-8, we will gather in Northern Minnesota to put our bodies on the line, to stop construction and tell the world that the days of tar sands pipelines are over. Only a major, nonviolent uprising - including direct action - will propel this issue to the top of the nation’s consciousness and force Biden to act. We are rising. Join us.

WMM members have been involved with Line 3 actions in the past by volunteering to document construction of the line and attending protests in Northern Minnesota as well as in the Twin Cities. A group of us plan to join the Treaty People Gathering on June 5-6 (Saturday and Sunday) to support the preparation of the non-violent direction action planned for Monday. The preparation will take place in Northern Minnesota; we will be leaving Saturday morning and returning Sunday night. Please let us know if you want to lend your time and energy for this important cause.

We are electing to support the preparation, rather than show up for the direct response because many of us have schedules that prohibit a visit that extends into the workweek. We invite members to join us. If you are interested in joining the non-violent direct action (on June 7), please sign up with Treaty People Gathering directly and know that you must attend the Sunday training on June 6. (And please let us know if you do go!) Contact us admin@womensmarchmn.org if you have any questions.
