Third Thursdays - Covid-19: Response, Assessment and Action in Minnesota
The focus of April’s event was the disparate impact of Covid-19 on different Minnesotan communities, and what we can do to help make sure all Minnesotans are taken care of now and going forward. Many thanks to our excellent speakers: JaNaé Bates (ISAIAH and Minnesota Covid 19 Response); and Francisco Segovia (COPAL MN); Erin Murphy, Our Stories. Our Health. It was an inspiring and informative evening.

Third Thursday Recap: The Fight for Equal Pay
Notes from Third Thursdays event in March - “The Fight for Equal Pay” - hosted by MSP NOW.
Facts:
- Women earn 81cents in the dollar compared to men. When compared with White men, Asian women earn 87 cents, White women earn 79 cents, Black women earn 63 cents and Latina women earn 54 cents.
- The wage gap increases with age, maxing at 55-64 years due to the Opportunity Gap (i.e. women are less likely to get promoted than men). As a result, men are 85% more likely to be in positions of senior leadership, and over 60% of women are individual contributors towards the end of their careers, compared to just 40% of men.
- Of all the Fortune 500 CEOs, just 5% are women, 0.4% are women of color, and there are no Black women Fortune 500 CEOs.
- Minnesota is ranked 12th in the country for gender pay equality, and 49th for racial inequality (above WI).
Third Thursday Recap: Roe Unrealized
February's Third Thursday Re-Cap
Roe Unrealized: The war on women is worse than we realize. Roe vs Wade is in place, but far too many women cannot get the reproductive healthcare they need and the GOP is making it more difficult. Karen Law, director of Our Justice, discussed how birth control, abortion, race, poverty and access to resources are being talked about at both national and local levels and how they tilt the playing field even more against some women. She talked about upcoming legislation aimed at further restricting access, and what we can do to make a change for equal access to the healthcare women need. “From unnecessary restrictions at reproductive health clinics, teen mom shaming, and legal challenges blocking insurance coverage for birth control, the need to challenge reproductive injustice remains central to gender equity” – Karen Law, Our Justice.
Third Thursday: Make healthcare about public policy
Healthcare is complicated — there’s no question about it. Indivisible MN tackled the topic at the November Third Thursday. It wasn’t the most upbeat conversation, but panelists gave a good overview of the current situation in Minnesota.
Third Thursdays Recap: Standing with Immigrants
Thursday, Sept. 28, marked a great turnout for our Third Thursday Social Resistance Gathering with the Minnesota Resistance Coalition. Immigration is at the forefront of many Minnesotans' minds, as seen from the turnout, and it's difficult to stay up-to-date with the administration's latest attack on our refugee and immigrant residents.
Keep fighting for immigrant rights
Many thanks to everyone who made it to the Third Thursdays event Standing with Immigrants and Refugees. What a great turn out! Ready to get to work? Here’s what you can do right now.
