Hosted by Voices for Environmental Justice and Sustainability Network Coalition:
Hosted by the undergraduate student group, Voices for Environmental Justice (VEJ) and sponsored by the Institute on the Environment, this unique event will bring students and faculty together with community leaders to discuss the importance of environmental justice as well as how UMN can become a cutting-edge site for EJ scholarship and meaningful community partnerships in the future. We have some amazing community and EJ leaders attending and speaking at the event.
Central to organizing this event is the ever-present reality of how our university has been used as a tool for oppression and upholding supremacy in all its violent forms. During the symposium, "the academy" will take a seat in listening to community leaders and marginalized voices guide this process as we co-creatively build the major together. We are intentionally laying the foundation for healing between the university and twin cities communities as we recognize the harm that has been done. The importance of this research institution to accomplice movements for justice and equity cannot be understated.
The speakers and panelists will be posted on this page as we receive confirmations from them.
