100 Years of Immigration - Dreamers from WWI to Today

  • Steele County Historical Society 1700 Austin Road Owatonna, MN, 55060 United States (map)

The Steele County Historical Society will host the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota for a discussion on 100 years of immigration history, dreamers and the DACA debate April 26, 7:00 PM.

In response to the failure of the DREAM Act legislation to pass both houses of Congress, President Obama initiated the immigration policy known as the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals in 2012.
Approximately 800,000 young people have been granted legal protections under DACA. Each one paid a stiff application fee, underwent a background check and submitted several identifying documents. Now, these known, registered and vulnerable members of society face an uncertain future, and no new DREAMers can apply.

This lecture will discuss the requirements for participating in DACA, who are the dreamers, and the history of immigration.

Free for SCHS members; $5 for nonmembers.
