International Women's Day: Promoting and Supporting Women of African Descent
Isuroon and the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota invite you to a symposium centered on women of African descent in celebration of International Women's Day.
The World Economic Forum predicts that the gender gap won't close entirely until 2186, and even later for women of African descent. This symposium will provide a space for critical dialogue addressing Minnesota’s racial disparities, which are among the worst in the United States, and will identify ways that Minnesotans can help promote the lives of women of African descent here in Minnesota and around the world.
Please join us for this daylong event that will address all aspects of lives of women of African descent, featuring keynote addresses and panels on economics, health, and other areas.
This celebration is modeled on the UN’s campaign The International Decade for People of African Descent, 2015–2024, which was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in a Resolution (68/237) adopted on 23 December 2013. The theme of the International Decade is "People of African descent: recognition, justice and development."
