Minnesota’s legislative session is coming to a close, but Governor Dayton and the GOP-led Legislature are far from a final deal. Everything is on the table, from vital services and health care to workers’ rights. While Governor Dayton has committed to vetoing preemption, we have no guarantee that state Republicans won’t try to strip away local control through other bills or negotiations.
You helped win paid sick time for over 150,000 workers, and now over 72,000 Minneapolis workers are poised to win a $15 minimum wage. Across the state, Minnesotans have called on the Governor to protect local control. Our local democracy and workers’ rights are at stake. Preemption means low-wage workers, especially women and workers of color over-concentrated in urban areas, would make huge sacrifices to the demands of big business. Taking away local control is part of a national strategy. Now is the time to send a clear message that this ALEC legislation has no place in Minnesota.
Join ISAIAH, TakeAction Minnesota, Minnesota Nurses Association, Main Street Alliance, Neighborhoods Organizing for Change (NOC), SEIU, and 15 Now MN at the Governor’s office to deliver a clear message: Minnesota families don’t accept preemption, not now, and not ever. Governor Dayton, stand strong for working people in Minnesota.
