WEAR ORANGE and join our volunteers at the Public Safety Committee hearing on the MN House Omnibus bill and Stand Your Ground bill, HF238. We need to let the Committee know that we are watching! UPDATE: Room 10, MN State Office Bldg--please keep an eye on this event for any hearing location changes!!
Rep. Tony Cornish, Chair of the House Public Safety Committee, has caved into the pressure he's been getting from the gun lobby. So at the Public Safety Committee meeting on Tuesday he's going to offer Stand Your Ground (SYG) as a stand-alone bill, even though House leadership had made a deal not to push forward any gun bills. Unfortunately, he won't allow any testimony on SYG because it already had a hearing, but we still need to be there, wearing orange.
Here's the info. Note the place and time have changed since my last email. Plan to arrive by 10:30am to make sure you get a seat.

We expect all the Democrats to vote against SYG and all the Republicans to vote for it, but it can't hurt to try to influence how the Committee members vote. Here are SYG talking points and the Committee members' contact information -- call or email and remind them that as Committee members, they represent ALL Minnesotans.
