Hosted by Break the Silence Day
We invite victim-survivors and allies to join us in standing with our friend Emily in Willmar, Minnesota.
Emily was sexually assaulted on January 1, 2015, at a New Years Eve Party. Several people at the party took photos and videos of what happened. Two days after it happened, she reported the assault to police and completed the forensic exam.
A month later, she got the letter saying there was not enough evidence to charge her perpetrator with the crime. This injustice effectively silences survivors, protects perpetrators, and leaves our community at risk of these unregistered sexual offenders.
Emily's case has been reopened, and we are rallying in support of her and all survivors who have watched their perpetrators walk free.
This event will be survivor-led, victim-centered, trauma-informed, and non-violent.
We invite those who are interested and able to join us to make signs. Suggested language for signs:
"Will another perpetrator walk free?"
"My perpetrator walks free." (If this is true for you).
"97% of rapists walk free."
"We believe Emily."
"We stand with survivors."
