Spotlight on Democracy Rally - MN State Capitol, Jan 6th, 6-7pm

In 2021, more than 360 voter suppression bills were introduced in 47 states in the U.S., including in MN. These laws aim to make it harder for people to vote, and they particularly impact communities of color.

Join us next Thursday (MN State Capitol, 6-7pm) on the first anniversary of the Jan 6 failed rightwing coup attempt, to rally in defense of democracy and call on lawmakers to preserve, protect and strengthen our right to vote. Join us as we demand that Congress pass the Freedom to Vote Act, John Lewis Voting Rights Act and the Protecting our Democracy Act.

This event is part of a nationwide day of action focused on democracy and is being organized by a number of different MN Indivisible groups.

Take Action to Protect Abortion Rights

Then, on Friday, the Supreme Court left in place the extreme Texan anti-abortion law, SB8, (bans abortions after six weeks and establishes vigilante citizens to enforce it), while allowing very narrow challenges to it to proceed. SB8 has now been in place in Texas for over 100 days, denying healthcare to thousands of people who want and need it.

So, what can we do? Contact your senator! Find your senators’ contact details; see if your senator is already a co-sponsor.

Join the Stop Line 3 National Day of Action

December 14th marks the one-year anniversary of the first large scale arrest from nonviolent direct action against the Line 3 Pipeline. To recognize the event, MN350, Rainforest Action Network, Honor the Earth and others are holding a national Stop Line 3 Day of Action.

We support the Stop Line 3 for many reasons. First, the damage being done to the Earth will irreparably hurt our lives and the lives for generations to come. Second, the Water Protectors and Grandmothers who lead this effort are Indigenous women we support them.

Did you host a #BansOffOurBodies March Oct 2? We'd like to hear from you!

The March in Minneapolis was not the only march that happened to lift up Reproductive Freedom in Minnesota this month. There were marches all over Minnesota. If you hosted or attended a March outside of Minneapolis, we’d like to hear from you! We’d love to feature your story and/or pictures here on the website.

We have a couple of questions to get your started, but feel free to send more or less.

  • What was the event like? (March/speakers/rally in a park…)

  • Time and location please?

  • Did you have any speakers, performers, planners or partners you’d like to highlight?

  • How many people showed up?

  • Anything you’d like us to add?

And feel free to send pictures – just email us at Admin Committee admin@womensmarchmn.com.

Gratitude for 10,000 Marchers Showing Up to Demand Reproductive Freedom for All

Thank you to our partners UnRestrict Minnesota, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, and 11 others, the 200 volunteers, and an estimated 10,000 people who marched with us in Minneapolis Saturday, October 2, 2021 for #BansOffOuBodies: March for Reproductive Freedom. We joined more than 650 marches across the country to demand an end to the dangerous, escalating attacks on reproductive healthcare in this country. The magnitude of the response demonstrates what surveys have already indicated, that 74 percent of Minnesotans support to access abortion without restrictions.

Act Now to Stop Line 3 before it crosses the Mississippi on June 30

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Please sign the petition to President Biden to ask him to Stop Line 3! Then tell 3 friends to do the same. Even better, also call the White House and Climate Office of Gina McCarthy to tell them to Stop Line 3 at 888-724-8946.

What else can you do?

Women’s Marchers are good at standing up and SAYING NO.
Also, consider a cash donation or donate food or gear to support the Water Protectors who are camping at the sites where Enbridge plans to drill and/or consider a donation to the bail fund for protestors who are arrested.
