Rise and Remember George Floyd May 25, 2026
Rise and Rember George Floyd happened on May 25, 2026 at 38th & Chicago with a vigil at 8pm. On the sixth anniversary of his murder, we mourned with his family and friends. We shuddered as we thought back to that summer of masks, armed agents, tanks through the streets, curfews, protests, and riots. We recognized the significance of his death to our history and our community. We are thankful for our community. We do our best to honor his memory.
Here’s a description of the weekend from the website…
Our annual event, Rise & Remember Festival, exists to hold in remembrance George Floyd and those we have lost unjustly to the pervasive impacts of systemic racism. Activities focus on education, empowerment, healing, celebration, and our collective pursuit for racial justice and equity. Through Rise & Remember Festival, we will host a candlelight vigil, a Night of Honor, and the street festival that continues to highlight the role of community-rooted healing and art as activism. Our vision is that this experience inspires people to rise to the occasion to come together in community and build racial justice and equity.
The festival on Sunday night included a range of local merchants and artists as well as music from St. Paul & the MPLS Funk All Stars and the International Reggae All Stars a few speakers and a march led by Brass Solidarity from the Square to the Say Their Names cemetery exhibit, met by a candle vigil by Singing Resistance with a string band from Walker West on site.
