Hold the Vote DFL legislators hold a sit-in asking Speaker Lisa Demuth to hold the vote on Gun Reform bill

May 14, 2026 marked the 11 months since House Emeritus Speaker Melissa Hortman & her husband Mark were murdered and State Sen John Hoffman & his wife Yvette were injured. MN House Speaker Lisa Demuth was refusing to introduce SF4067, a gun violence prevention bill the Senate has already passed. So, the House DFLers planned a 24-hour sit-in starting 5 pm. The sit-in lasted much longer.

Buoyed by constituents cheering them on outside the House Floor, Legislators (and supporters) spent days asking Demuth to hold the vote. They tried introducing a duplicate bill. They held space.

The gun reform bill vote never happened. Below are videos from the days (and nights) of the sit-in.
