The GOP tax bill is a massive giveaway to corporations and the wealthiest one percent. It raises taxes on some middle-class families, adds $1.5 trillion to the deficit and will force deep cuts to critical programs like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.
As with healthcare, we must make it as hard as possible for this bill to get passed, starting now.
The House bill goes to Ways and Means Committee for mark up this week (note: Erik Paulsen is on this committee) and the House will vote on it next week.
The Senate bill goes to Senate Finance Committee next week and the Senate will vote on it in the beginning of December.
What we can do
1. Call your members of Congress, especially Representatives Jason Lewis, Erik Paulsen and Tom Emmer and urge them to vote no on a tax bill that would decimate Medicaid, Medicare and help only the wealthiest. Hold them accountable for the way they vote on this bill. Contact your friends and family across the state and nation and ask them to do the same.
Don’t know who your US representatives are? We’ve got you covered.
Don’t know what to say to them? Our friends at Indivisible have written some sample scripts:
